The Mayor Dele Oshinowo Foundation (MDOF), in collaboration with Seyi Tinubu, has concluded its nine-day Kosofe Cares free healthcare outreach, extending the initiative to residents of Mende and Anthony Village in Lagos State.

The programme, which ran from October 30 to November 7, 2026, provided free healthcare services to residents across Kosofe Local Government Area, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA and Agboyi-Ketu LCDA.

Organised under the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) ILERA EKO scheme, the outreach offered health insurance enrolment, medication, tuberculosis testing, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, medical consultations, eye examinations and prescription glasses.

Speaking at the closing event held at Anthony Village Senior School, former Agboyi-Ketu LCDA Chairman and APC candidate for Kosofe Federal Constituency, Mayor Dele Oshinowo, urged residents to encourage their neighbours to take advantage of the final opportunity to access the services.

He also urged beneficiaries to use their ILERA EKO cards to access healthcare at government-owned hospitals of their choice, explaining that the scheme provides coverage for one year.

Oshinowo advised beneficiaries to contact the number on their cards if any hospital personnel demanded payment for services covered by the scheme.

He said: “Once you have your ILERA EKO cards, you don’t need to pay any money for healthcare at any government hospital of your choice. If any hospital personnel ask you for money, kindly call the number at the back of your card.

“Our drugs are free. You don’t need to pay a dime. Child delivery, treatment and drugs for the period of one year are also covered. Pregnant women do not need to be afraid that they cannot afford surgery.”

Oshinowo also thanked the Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Area, Moyosore Ogunlewe, the Lagos State Health Management Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture and his wife, Mrs Tawa Oshinowo, for their support.

The foundation’s closing event also featured political mobilisation, with Oshinowo urging residents to support APC candidates in the forthcoming elections, including President Bola Tinubu, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, himself as the party’s candidate for Kosofe Federal Constituency, and the party’s candidates for the Lagos State House of Assembly.

He also called on residents to support the APC governorship candidate, Dr Kadiri Hamzat, and the party’s candidates for Kosofe Constituencies I and II.

He assured residents that the candidates would work towards peace, prosperity and good governance.

Residents Seek Continuity Beyond Elections

Some beneficiaries and residents commended the outreach but called on the organisers to sustain the interventions beyond the election period.

Mrs Tolulope Olumide thanked Oshinowo and Seyi Tinubu for providing residents with access to the ILERA EKO health services. She also pledged to mobilise her neighbours to participate in the forthcoming elections.

Another resident, Mrs Ifeoluwa Akilla, urged the foundation to extend its free healthcare programmes beyond the electioneering period.

She said residents would appreciate efforts to ensure that essential welfare interventions continued after the elections.

Similarly, Mr Tunde Akinmuboni described the initiative as unusual in the area and called for more regular interventions.

“This is the kind of gesture I am seeing for the first time in the Kosofe area. We hope to see more of this programme.

“However, what Nigerians want and are demanding is good governance down to the grassroots. If Oshinowo can do this every six months after his victory, people will appreciate it. He will also be building trust with the people, which is better than giving people money on the road,” he said.

The nine-day outreach brought the Kosofe Cares initiative to a close, with residents’ calls for continued healthcare support highlighting the importance of sustaining access to essential services beyond the programme.
