The Kosofe Federal Constituency in Lagos State is fast earning a reputation as a theatre of defamation disputes and legal threats, with politicians and community leaders frequently trading accusations and legal notices.
In 2021, the Chairman of the Kosofe Local Government Community Development Committee, Hon. Segun Babatunde, served a defamation notice on Kosofe Reporters – a case that eventually fizzled out without resolution.

Similarly, the immediate past lawmaker representing Kosofe Federal Constituency, Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye, issued a defamation notice against Oloye Salami Oluwaseun over alleged defamatory remarks at his Igbogbo residence. That matter also quietly died down, reportedly after political intervention.

Ahead of the July 12 Local Government elections, another round of defamation notices surfaced. Businessman Taiwo Odusola, Hon. Ibrahim Mustapha, and Oloye Seun Salami each served separate notices on the suspended Special Adviser to the Kosofe Local Government on Boundary Matters, Hon. Ganiu Oyebanjo. Though Oyebanjo ignored the warnings, reports suggest he was later dragged to court – a case whose outcome remains unclear.

Now, with Councilor Sulyman Baruwa’s unresolved defamation notice against four of his colleagues in the Kosofe Legislative Arm, political observers are asking whether history will repeat itself—ending in silence—or whether this dispute could mark a turning point in Kosofe’s contentious political landscape.
